Hives for Heroes® is a national non-profit military Veteran organization focusing on honey bee conservation and a healthy transition from service. As “The National Beekeeping Network” they provide connection, purpose, and healthy relationships, fostering a lifelong hobby in beekeeping. Hives for Heroes centers around one NewBEE, one Mentor, and one Hive. In the first year, “NewBEEs” follow their mentor’s guidance and direction to learn the basics of apiary management. Throughout year two, Veterans continue their work alongside other beekeepers while growing their own bees and improving themselves and the community. In year three, the Veterans, now experienced beekeepers, have the opportunity to lead “NewBEEs” as “Mentors”. Sign up below to get registered today!
Hives for Heroes matches Mentors and NewBEEs based on geographical location and availability. Once you apply, we will get to work on matching! This may be immediate, or it may take time based on Mentors and NewBEEs in any given location. We value your patience as our goal is to match everyone who applies as quickly as possible!
As our organization grows, so does our need for Mentors. Mentors are experienced beekeepers and volunteers in the network that share their unique knowledge of apiary management. If you or someone you know is an experienced beekeeper, sign up today to begin sharing your knowledge of sustainable beekeeping, nature therapy, and this fulfilling lifelong hobby.
As a Volunteer, there are many opportunities to help whether it's building boxes or helping out at a corporate event! Sign up today to get connected in the Network!
